Janet Dewes
Chair
Janet has been a trustee at YCS since 2012 and has been Chair since 2021. Her background is in both Education and Psychology. She took a joint Honours degree in Pure Maths and Psychology, and taught A-Level Maths and Psychology for 22 years, finally becoming Deputy head at Olchfa School, Swansea. She then retrained as an Educational Psychologist, and worked for 17 years with several local authorities, including Rhondda-Cynon-Taff and Monmouthshire.
She has also trained as a counsellor, supervisor and holds a postgraduate Diploma in Family Therapy. She was Chair of the Welsh branch of ACAMH (Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health) for 12 years, and actively promoted training in this area. She was a volunteer counsellor for Eye to Eye, a registered charity in Rhondda-Cynon-Taff, which provides free counselling for young people between the ages of 11 and 25, for 14 years.
Janet is actively involved in many forms of music, including the Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society, Welsh National Opera and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She is also helping to integrate a Syrian family into the community and is a keen walker and birdwatcher.
