All YCS counselling is delivered by volunteers. We are always looking for new volunteer counsellors - whether they be fully qualified or still in training - to help us offer support to more people in Cardiff and Bridgend.

We currently offer our clients a 12-session model and are very happy to hear from counsellors of all modalities interested in volunteering with us. In line with our mission statement and equal opportunities policy, we are also particularly interested to hear from volunteers from underrepresented groups.

As a volunteer with us you will need to:

  • Be qualified as a counsellor or be enrolled on a counselling course which requires you to gain counselling hours through volunteering, and the course has signed you off as ready to volunteer
  • Be able to deliver counselling either from our central Cardiff office in Baltic House, Mount Stuart Square or from central Bridgend (variety of venues)
  • Commit to seeing at least 2 clients, usually on a weekly basis (we can often offer more hours than this but sometimes there may be fewer depending on current referral levels)
  • Attend a comprehensive induction and quarterly meetings

In return, you will:

  • Have access to ongoing continuous professional development opportunities

We can also support you to access supervision with one of our bank of volunteer supervisors at no cost, but we can also pay a contribution of £25 per month towards your supervision costs if you choose to access your supervision elsewhere.  We will need to ensure that you are receiving high quality, adequate supervision so if you do choose your own supervisor, they will need to sign a supervision agreement and remain in contact with us during your volunteer placement.
